Seasons

The topics below are basic guides to show the different themes that can be used on a site visit to the Lickey Hills. They are not restrictive and can be adapted to suit your needs. For any further information please contact the Rangers at the Visitor Centre.

Colours Sounds Smells Life cycles
The colours of the Park can reflect the season or time of the year.

In winter the white of snow and frost and browns of the trees. In spring the light greens of the new growth and blues and yellows of the flowers. In summer the lush greens of the foliage sprinkled with splashes of colour and in autumn all the ranges of greens reds and browns of the falling leaves.

There are natural sounds at different times of day and night and across the seasons. Produce a sound map to write down where you can hear things around you using symbols for the different sounds.

Example of sound map

Smells are all around you in the Park from the plants, the soil and even the animals.

If you are in the woods during late spring you can smell the bluebells that cover the woodland floor. They smell similar to hyacinths and are related to them.

Smelly cocktails can be made using natural materials and mixing with water a non-drinkable potion is made for your nose.

There are many lives constantly cycling on and around the Park. Perhaps the easiest to see is the tree.
